A Giant Thank You to Jan, Rita , Karen C. (new member) & Helene who cleaned Pearl's Trail last Friday, 5/31. This dedicated Hoofer group also cleaned some extra area behind the Restrooms at the Crest Parking lower lot. Jan led this cadre of ambitious women since I couldn't, but I still get to write the report for the US Forest Service. (see pictures below)
They reported meeting a group of men from Jerusalem as the highlight of the trip. Helene found the largest piece of trash. What happens on the trail usually stays on the trail. If you want any more details about the service project, ask these wonderful Hoofers who volunteered.
If you missed this Clean-Up, maybe you'll choose to volunteer for the fall trail maintenance. Details in October. I hope to be able to lead then.
Wishing you beautiful trails w/many flowers.
Jean P.
P.S. I know Pearl and Jane G. are smiling down from Hoofer Heaven on our great group of Hoofers. The maintenance hike is always a fun outing. It sounds like work, but we always have a great time with lots of laughter and are often met by hikers on the trail who thank us for maintaining the trail and keeping it looking nice so they can enjoy the beauty of the Sandia Mountains. I love doing this and have volunteered quite often, unfortunately this year just didn't work for me. I highly recommend everyone taking a chance for this feel-good opportunity!--Rose
