Making the Ascent up Tome Hill

The Hoofers made a pilgrimage of sorts up, down, and around Tome Hill near Los Lunas. The hike was less than 4 miles but begins with a steep ascent up the south side. On the way up the hill they stopped several times to turn around to view the scenery and listen to the cranes. After reaching the summit, the Hoofers hiked down the trail on the west side, walked along irrigation ditches at the base of the hill on the north side and followed the roads along the east and south sides back to the parking lot.  I was not able to go on this hike, but I have been to Tome Hill before, making the annual Good Friday Pilgrimage that is a big part of the Holy Week remembrance in this part of New Mexico.

This is a picture I took on my Good Friday Pilgrimage up Tome Hill just to show you the amount of people who make this climb

Here are the Hoofers on their climb up Tome Hill with Barb, Jean and Ginny

Probably a U.S.G.S. survey marker, unfortunately unable to read it.

Encountered this interesting version of a wheel fence

At the base of Tome hill near the parking lot were some metalwork depictions of historical events

Behind  the arch is Tome Hill

I wish to thank Julianne Levings for providing me these pictures to add to the Blog
