Marilyn led a very popular hike to Cerrillos State Park. (or was it lunch at Madrid’s Mine Shaft?) We had 15 hikers. Some interesting photos, flowers, bugs (there are always bugs) a big unusual lizard who walked all over a cactus and the fire smoke they observed on the way home. A windy, but beautiful day --Tamara

| And doing a great job behind the camera: Tamara |
| Heading out and being passed by some ladies on horseback |
| Now that is a fun way to do a hike! Horses do all the work and riding is a lot of fun! |
| Christian Lode |
| Nice to see the beginning of New Mexico's wildflowers |
| Everyone enjoyed reading about the history of the area |
| One of the nice things about hiking is the conversations along the trails |
| Scarlet Hedgehog?? |
| Meeting up with some more people on horseback |
| That sure looks like fun |
| Mining does not sound like a job I would be interested in |
| Looking deep into the mine which is now fenced closed |
| A very artistic tree stump... Trees are even beautiful when they are dead! |
| Dakota Vervain also known as Verbena |
| Can't see the leaves so almost impossible to ID, but I will go out on a stem and guess Baby Asters |
| Unfortunately did not get a photo of this sign |
| Interesting how trees deal with droughts |
| Trail markers and keep your dogs on a leash on both trails |
| Oh a Stink Beetle looks like he is ready to spray |
| Looks like a happy group of Happy Hoofers |
| Well in this case...there was no gold in them there hills! |
| More Dakota Vervain (Verbena) |
| Another mine (and from the picture I would say it is a finger mine) see the finger in the right corner of photo...ok it wasn't funny |
| Now that is a big lizard...and pretty daring to climb a Prickly Pear! |
| Look at the size of his head! I just found out that this is not a lizard but a chameleon and you can notice that it is changing colors to blend in more with the cactus (Thanks to Jean P.) |
| Where the Hoofers stopped for lunch |
| Almost looks like something from the 1800's |
| They sure were having a great time...I don't see any beer so that is just pure happiness |
| Some pictures of our Land of Enchantment on fire |
ADDITIONAL PICTURES OF THE HIKE FROM JUDY S.
I tried to post only those that were not duplicates
Another angle of the Christian Lode
| The most important thing... Don't drink the water! |
| Unfortunately we can't read all of this. But a very educational hike! |
| On the far right of this picture, I believe this is smoke from our fires |
| These mines were sure out in the middle of nowhere |
| More smoke... so sad to see this |
| Water break! Always important |
| And our little friend -- I wonder how they can traverse a Prickly Pear... I get attacked if I just stand near one |
------------------------------------------------------
I just love GPS's It is rare to ever get two of them to have the same data...I always go with the one that gives us the longest hike! In this case... Judy S. wins my choice! But seriously -- what is wrong with these things? (see below)

Beautiful Yucca Blooms
Found out that these are from Tamara's yard She is so proud she wanted to share them
