Hiking La Luz Trail from Sandia Crest to Tram and return on Crest Trail 6/11/2021

Hoofers at the top of the Sandia Mountains: with the steps, we were able to get the shorter hikers in the back and the taller ones in the front for a change!  Front: Julianne, Sally, Jean P. Barb Back: Lynda, Barb's guest: "Barb II", Karen and....

Making an appearance:  Rose leading the hike!

Trailhead of the La Luz Spur

Heading out

We had beautiful views throughout this section of the hike!

Some, well, maybe most of the trail was on the edge of the mountains

The wildflowers were awesome here, we all took our time enjoying them

It was a nice shady hike

Puccoon

Mountain Parsley! As I said, we saw a lot of wildflowers!

As I said, the trail was on the edge of the mountain

And the views were awesome!

Sally and Lynda keeping pace with me, while the others were enjoying the wildflowers

This was the reason I went on this part of the hike first... no way was I going to climb all these steps at the end.... not after being at sea level for a month!
Wallflower

More Wallflowers--I was having trouble taking pictures of the flowers with my camera, for some reason, (as you can see in the above photos)  so I asked Jean P. to take the flower pictures for me.
As you can see we had a nice shady trail

Monument Plant aka Green Gentian before blooming

Canada Violets

I really loved the colors in this rock ledge

Clematis hiding but I saw it
Some more of our great views

Rocky Mountain Iris were bountiful

Sally found 2 Puff mushrooms (one in her hand and one on ground below her hand)  She said they were great eating, but should be eaten right after picking.  These two were picked then left behind from someone and they were both hard as rocks -- actually that is what some of us thought they were!

Pausing to enjoy the view!

I found this interesting. I believe the forest service did this to preserve the soil from eroding and the rocks from being washed away

Views of the trail

In the previous picture where we were all looking at the view we thought this rock edge was the location of the Kiwanis Cabin.  As we went further along the trail we could see that we were right!

Zooming in on the tram.  We met some people on this trail who had taken the Tram up and were going to hike down La Luz...(did they know how hot it was going to get?)  We also met several hikers who had climbed up La Luz from the bottom.  I told them we also were hiking La Luz, and they said we must have gotten up really early. Did not correct them from thinking that we climbed all the way up...I know, shame on me!

We all know what this is

Choke Cherry

The end of La Luz by the Tram House

Views at the top

View of ABQ
Can you believe that although we discussed it -- we did not take any pictures of the Hoofers eating lunch on the patio of the Ten3 restaurant

Hiking back to the cars... uphill after lunch... just to prove how fit we are!

We saw very few wildflowers on the way back

We hike Pearl's trail since we were in the neighborhood
Barb II, Lynda, Barb, Sally, Karen, Jean, Julianne

Barb II used my camera to catch all of me in the picture
