Hooker Hikes while I was away -- Hiking to the Crest Via Rocky Point Trail to the Tram Return Via 10K Trail 9/14 2018 and Hiking to Domingo Baca Canyon from Elena Gallegos 9/28/2018

Hiking to the Crest 9/14/2018

Julianne led her hike more or less from the Rocky Point Trail to the service road and then to Tram to see how things were progressing with the Tram Restaurant.  From the picture you will be able to see their progress is quite slow.  They then headed down the South Crest Trail to the top of the Tree Spring Trail where they had their break for "lunch".   After lunch they turned back north on the 10K trail through the ski area...(knowing Julianne she was probably checking out the snow--or lack thereof!) It was about a 5.2 mile hike with an elevation gain of ~900 feet

Ski runs...no snow

Another Ski run...still no snow...
Ok I am either going with the Clasping Butterweed (Alpine Groundsel) or the Cutleaf Groundsel... Betting on the first answer choice

Hiking to Domingo Baca and the Waterfall 9/28/2018

Sally led her hike to Domingo Baca Canyon but this time starting at Elena Gallegos.  The group wanted to do it this way as they believed it would be a lot shorter---It wasn't..
Sally writes that it was a beautiful day, warm, but not hot.  All went well until Sally made a left turn on the wrong trail.  The trail still led to Domingo Baca, but with about one mile meandering to get there.  (Never tell the leader which way to lead a hike--she usually knows what she is doing if you do it HER way....lesson learned!)  When they arrived at the correct trail intersection, a few hikers decided to go back for various reasons.  Eight Hoofers continued into the canyon.  It was lovely and cool but the water was not flowing in the stream.  We knew that we could not make it to the top of the water fall, so we stopped at the 2nd fire pit which is off to the left of the trail.  We found a running stream coming from the side canyon which made a great lunch stop and turn around spot.  The stream goes under ground a few feet downstream of the fire pit.  After lunch we headed back to the cars.  When we got out of the canyon, a delightful breeze greeted us to make  for a comfortable hike back to the cars.  My fitbit said we hiked 6.5 miles.  (Note to Sally never trust a fitbit or Gps to be accurate for the distance--if there were other fitbits I am sure you would have had as many different distances--but as leader, only yours would be the correct one!)
