Sending Wildflowers to Pearl -- in Gratitude for Everything She Has Given Us

If you ask any of the Happy Hoofers, I am sure they can give you a dozen or so different reasons to be grateful to Our Pearl for what she has given us.  Inspiring us to hike beyond reaching that Golden Age of being Medicare Eligible. (Which I just did!) Grateful for her smile or her laugh, the Weenie Roasts, the S'mores that these old broads still clamor for, that crazy Chicken Dance, the stories of past hikes...but my reason for being grateful, is that I developed a love for Wildflowers...and learning to identify them.  Who would think the desert would have so many varieties, so many beautiful specimens, and so much COLOR!!!!  I have found over the years that identifying is not just noting the color and number and shape of the petals and leaves. You have to look under the flowers, and feel the leaves and stems, etc. to nail down what the yellow or purple daisy-looking flower really is... feel the stem and know it is in the mint family.  I have learned a lot, but still have a long way to go...and I am so happy to have BOTH of Pearl's books to help me.
So to thank Pearl I am sending some of my pictures that I have taken of the wildflowers on our hikes. And, hopefully, I have identified them correctly...or else I am sure Pearl will let me know if I haven't.
So here's to Pearl--thanks for the memories!

Thank you for posting the pictures. Pearl enjoyed them. It was sort of like watching a quiz show. She'd look and guess, then I'd read it and she'd agree or correct me. She suggestwd that the narrow leaf globemallow isn't a narrow leaf and she prefers calypso orchid to fairy lady slipper. :-) Thanks for the entertainment!
