Raven's Ridge Revisited June19, 2015

I was away for this hike, but I did it with the Tuesday Trekkers the preceding year.  This time the Hoofers get a chance to attack the steep climb up to Deception Peak.  Unfortunately they did not get that far....Mid-June and there was still snow on the trail.  But they did make it at least to the lookout for Nambe Lake.   Here is the write-up from Jane about the hike:

Rose was not on this hike which was a shame because she could have snapped much better pictures *blush* than what I did for instance of Jennise and me with the snow man Jennise made.   We resisted having a snow ball fight.  Most of us needed all the energy we could muster to post hole through the snow drifts as we plodded our way up Ravens Ridge towards  Deception Peak.  Only we didn't get to the peak because around 2 p.m., we faced maybe 300 or 400 more feet of elevation gain half of which had to be through a snow field before coming out of the trees on the final approach to  the summit which Brigitte heard was clear of snow.

Our leader Brigitte took a vote at that point to see who wanted to plod on as she liked to say or go back.  The "go back"s out numbered the "plod on"s so we started back arriving at the Sandia Ski Basin parking lot around 4:30 p.m., where Kathleen asked a lady sitting in a car if she would take our picture.  Susan obliged so we have a picture of Jennise, myself, Brigitte, Rita, Karen, and Kathleen smiling cause we got to maybe a bit over 12,000 feet and back with no casualties.

Ginny was with at the start and until shortly after lunch when she left.

At times on the way  up, there were dark, gray clouds over the peaks to our left.  Folks coming down said they had seen lightning and heard thunder.  The clouds seemed to stay where they were so we got to enjoy a comfortable day in sunshine with little wind.  We also had good views of Santa Fe Baldy, Lake Peak, and even Nambe Lake which pleased us

I'm thinking though that there might have been one Hoofer who wasn't so comfortable although she might not admit it.  That was Jennise who kept picking up rocks and putting them in her day pack.  I  could hardly lift her pack when we got back to the parking lot.

"Be sure to weigh that pack and let us know what it weighs," I said.

She did.  It weighed 19 pounds.  Doesn't sound like a lot but for me it  sure felt like a lot.

Thanks again to Brigitte for leading us on the hike which had a little adventure but nothing scary and left some of us on a high for having done it.

Here are the pictures sent to me from the Trekkers who went on this hike
